The Month of Rabi al Awwal

Rabi ul Awal is the 3rd month in Islamic Calendar, also known as Hijri Calendar.

In Arabic, the word “rabbi” means spring while “al awwal” means the first. Hence Rabbi ul Awwal as a whole translates into ‘The First Spring’.

Rabi ul Awal is the most significant month in the Islamic history, because humanity has been blessed in this month by the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.), which is the most significant and the most remarkable event in human history. So, this month is known as the month of birth of our beloved Prophet (S.A.W.).

The month of Prophet’s (S.A.W.) birth

Before the Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) was born, people were living in a state of ignorance and darkness. They worshiped different deities. They were deviating from the path of Allah. As the Prophet (S.A.W.) was born, he brought with him the Message of Truth, the Message of Allah, His Oneness. This message led the people towards the path of enlightenment, helping them distinguish between right and wrong.

One of the most important merits of our Prophet (S.A.W.) is that he is the last of all Prophets (A.S.) and no Prophet will come after him. Mohammad (S.A.W.) will remain the Prophet for all mankind till the end of days. As Allah says in Quran:

“…. He (S.A.W.) is the Messenger of Allah and the last (end) of the Prophets. And Allah is Ever AllAware of everything.”

(Surah Ahzab 33:40)

The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) is the epitome of perfection. He is the role model chosen for us by Allah and we are to follow his Sunnah in order to lead an ideal lifestyle which is not only defined to us by religion but is in fact beneficial for all mankind if we were to follow it. Allah Says in Quran:

“Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad S.A.W.) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.”

(Surah Ahzab 33:21)

Without any doubt, life of Prophet (S.A.W.) is the most important source of guidance for all the Muslims and Prophet (S.A.W.) is a mercy not only upon us but all worlds and creations of Allah. As Allah Says in Quran:

“And We have sent you (O Muhammad S.A.W.) not but as a mercy for the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).”

(Surah Anbiya 21:107)

On this day, Muslims engage in various activities to commemorate the Prophet’s birth:

1. Recitation of Quran: Many Muslims recite verses from the Quran, especially those that mention the Prophet’s life and mission.

2. Naat Recitations: People recite and listen to Naats (poems and hymns praising the Prophet) to express their love and admiration for him.

3. Charity: It is common to engage in acts of charity and giving to those in need to emulate the Prophet’s generosity.

4. Mosque Gatherings: Special gatherings are held at mosques and Islamic centers where scholars may deliver sermons on the life and teachings of the Prophet.

5. Decorations: Some areas and homes are decorated with lights and banners bearing Islamic calligraphy and messages about the Prophet.

6. Processions: In some regions, processions are organized, where people march, sing hymns, and display banners with messages of love for the Prophet.

7. Fasting: Some individuals choose to fast on this day as a form of worship and to emulate the Prophet’s fasting habits.

8. Dua (Prayer): Muslims offer special prayers and supplications on this day, seeking blessings for themselves and their families.

9. Feasting: Families and communities come together for special meals and feasts, sharing food with loved ones and neighbors.

Overall, the 12th of Rabi’ ul Awwal is a day of unity, reflection, and reverence for Muslims worldwide, as they remember the exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad and the profound impact he had on the world through his message of Islam.

حضور صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا ہم پر، آنے والے عذاب ٹلتے ہیں۔

میرے نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی ذات جو مانتے نہیں، وہ جان لیں کہ ہم بھی انہیں جانتے نہیں۔

جس خواب میں ہو جائے دیدار نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم حاصل،

اے عشق کبھی ہم کو بھی وہ نیند سلا دے۔

کی محمد سے وفا تو نے تو ہم تیرے ہیں یہ جہاں چیز ہے کیا لوح وقلم تیرے ہیں۔

وہ عرش کا چراغ ہیں میں ان کے قدموں کی دھول ہوں اے زندگی گواہ رہنا میں بھی غلام رسول ہوں۔

نہ کیوں آرائشیں کر تا خدا دنیا کے سامان میں تمھیں دولھا بنا کر بھیجنا تھا بزم امکاں میں۔

شاہ کونین صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم جلوہ نما ہوگیا، رنگ عالم کا باطل نیا ہو گیا

رب فارمایا محبوبہ زمانہ سارے تیرے نے اےعرش وی اے فرش وی دیوانے سارے تیرے نے

تیرے ہوتے جنم لیا ہوتا پھر کبھی تو تجھے ملا ہوتا

زرا ہوتا جو تیری راہوں کا تیرے تلووں کو چھو لیا ہوتا

تاجدارِ حرم ہو نگاہِ کرم ہم غریبوں کے دن بھی سنور جائیں گے

میکشو آؤ آؤ مدینے چلیں، دستِ ساقئ کوثر سے پینے چلیں

یاد رکھو اگر اُٹھ گئی اک نظر، جتنے خالی ہیں سب جام بھر جائیںگے

اس کرم کا کروں شکر کیسے ادا جو کرم مجھے پے میرے نبی کردیا

میں سجاتا تھا سرکار کی محفلے مجھے کو ہر غم سے رب نے بری کر دیا

سنا ہے آپ ہر عاشق کے گھر تشریف لاتے ہیں، میرے گھر میں بھی ہو جائے چراغاں، یا رسول اللہ۔

تیرا کھاواں میں تیرے گیت گاواں یا رسول اللہ
