Islamic Quotes About Marriage with Quran Verses and Hadith
The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:
“There is nothing like marriage, for the two who love one another.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah)
1. Marriage is a sunnah of Rasulullah s.a.w.
In a hadith, Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said,
“Marriage is part of my sunnah, and whoever does not follow my sunnah has nothing to do with me. Get married, for I am heartened by your great numbers before the nations (of other Prophets).”
(Sunan Ibn Majah)
2. Marriage Brings Joy
Rasullah s.a.w. said,
“Get married, for I am heartened by your great numbers before the nations (of other Prophets).”
(Shu’ab Al-Iman)
3. Find comfort between yourselves (Husband and Wife)
And it is among His signs that He has created for you wives from among yourselves, so that you may find tranquility in them, and He has created love and kindness between you. Surely in this there are signs for a people who reflect. (Quran, 30:21)
This Holy Quran verse informs us that we should find comfort amongst one another. Allah has created us and gave us the blessing of marriage. Entering marriage teaches a husband and wife more about love, kindness and mercy. By acting upon this, it increases our chances of seeking Allah’s blessing.
4. The Importance of Choosing a Righteous Spouse
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said in a Hadith reported by Abu Huraira:
“A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her family status, her beauty, and her religion. So choose the one who is best in the religion and prosper.”
This Hadith reminds us that the most crucial factor in selecting a spouse should be their religious commitment, as it is the foundation upon which a successful and lasting marriage is built.
5. Honour the bond between husband and wife
O men, fear your Lord who created you from a single soul, and from it created its match, and spread from the two, many men and women. And fear Allah in whose name you ask each other (for your rights), and surely, Allah is watchful over you. (Quran, 4:1)
A beautiful Quran verse about marriage. Teaching us to respect one another’s rights as husband and wife. To not take advantage or abuse the relationship as Allah is always watching. Putting this into practice will increase the kindness between spouses and make you more god-conscious. Which is always a good thing.
6. Mutual Love and Support
In another Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of love and support within the marital relationship:
“The most complete of the believers in faith, is the one with the best character among them. And the best of you are those who are best to their women.”
This Hadith encourages spouses to treat each other with kindness, respect, and the best of character, fostering an atmosphere of love and support.
7. Every person has a match
It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). (Quran, 7:189)
Allah has blessed us with halal means to meet out needs. In marriage and love, Allah has created us to enjoy each other’s company. Men and women have been designed by Allah to bring each other comfort and we can use this blessing to come closer with our faith.
8. Nothing like marriage
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: There is nothing like marriage, for the two who love one another. (Sunan Ibn Majah)
Marriage is not compulsory, however it is a great act of worship. In this Hadith quote about marriage, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) signifies the great blessing of marriage and loving one another. We can take immense comfort in knowing that marriage is an act of worship, can help us be more like the Prophet (PBUH) and increase our rewards for the hereafter.
9. Practices of our Prophet (PBUH)
Four are from the practices of the Messengers: modesty, the use of perfume, the use of the tooth-stick, and marriage. (Sunan At-Tirmizi)
A blessed hadith quote about marriage, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) states marriage is one of his practices. What better way to live life than following our beloved Prophet’s (PBUH) acts of worship. A great way to gain rewards and be amongst his (PHBU) Ummah.
10. Part of our Sunnah
It was narrated from Aishah that: the Messenger of Allah said: Marriage is part of my sunnah, and whoever does not follow my sunnah has nothing to do with me. Get married, for I will boast of your great numbers before the nations. Whoever has the means, let him get married, and whoever does not, then he should fast for it will diminish his desire. (Sunan Ibn Majah 1846)
A beautiful quote from the Prophet (PBUH) stating the impact of marriage. Marriage is a way of increasing the size of the Muslim Ummah which the Prophet (PBUH) will boast about. Just imagine our beloved Prophet (PBUH) boasting about your marriage and offspring. May Allah make us amongst those inshallah.
11. Beautify each other
Your spouses are a garment for you as you are for them (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:187)
A garment is normally clothing one wears to protect and comfort themselves. In this Hadith about marriage, our partners are referred to as garments and are meant to protect one another and keep each other happy. Your partner should also beautify you as clothing does and spouses should act as a unit, protecting each other.
12. The Prophet’s (PBUH) blessing
When the Prophet (PBUH) congratulated a person who just got married, he said: May Allah bless you and send blessings upon you, and bring goodness between you two. (Sunan At-Tirmizi)
Subhanallah. An amazing display of the Prophet’s (PHBU) reactions to marriage. May we all be blessed like those who were directly blessed by our Prophet (PBUH). And may Allah bring goodness into our married lives and protect our marriages even into Jannah. Ameen.
13. Patience in Times of Disagreement
Marriage inevitably involves moments of disagreement and conflict. The Quran acknowledges this reality and advises patience. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:216), Allah says:
“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.”
This verse teaches us that sometimes, what we perceive as negative may hold hidden blessings. Patience during challenging times can strengthen the marital bond.
14. The Role of Communication
Effective communication is vital in any marriage. The Quran encourages open and honest dialogue between spouses. In Surah An-Nisa (4:32), Allah says:
“And do not consume one another’s wealth or use it for sinful [acts], and [instead], live in love and harmony.”
